13-yr-old raped, burnt alive in Punjab

Ludhiana, Feb 25: A 13-year-old girl was raped and later burnt alive allegedly by her neighbour in Sherpur area here, police said on Thursday, Feb 25.

SHO Surinder Mohan said the girl was last night raped by Sunil, who lives in her neighbourhood. When she threatened that she would narrate the incident to her parents, the accused poured kerosene oil on her and set her on fire, he said.

The girl, daughter of a labourer, was rushed to the civil hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries. She breathed her last today, Mohan said.

The victim recorded her statement before the magistrate while she was being treated at the hospital, he said. Three person have been taken into custody in this regard. Efforts are on to nab Sunil, who is at large, he said.
