1000+ girls to enrol in Sainik Schools
Modi government started the pilot project in 2018-19 at Sainik School, Chhinchhip, when only 6 girls came forward to take admission. This year, their number is going to cross a thousand.
New Delhi, Feb 10: When in a massive messaging for women empowerment, the Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to let girls study in Sainik Schools, there were a lot of questions raised. There were a few doubters that the scheme would fail as not many girls would want to study in the schools that have been 'all boys' till now.
However, in a pleasant development, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt has disclosed that Sainik Schools Society has achieved a milestone as it has admitted more than 1000 girl cadets. After the admission process for the academic year 2023-24 is done, Sainik Schools have reported that they have received a massive number of applications from girls.

In its first tenure the Modi government had announced that girls too should study in Sainik Schools. It had then started a pilot project five years ago in 2018-19. Started at Sainik School Chhinchhip, only 06 girls came to take admission, this was quite encouraging and gave an idea to the government. Then onwards the government decided to extend the scheme to all the Sainik Schools in the Academic Year 2021-22.
Girl students' numbers increased every year
Currently, there are 674 girls studying across all the Sainik Schools in India which is quite a tremendous achievement as it all happened in a short span of time. An institution that has a history of only male students required a lot of changes not just in terms of curriculum but faculty, amenities, orientation, etc. amongst others, it was not easy for them to change.
Needless to say when Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt says that he is extremely happy about the admission process of girl students in Sainik Schools, it means a lot not just for the students but the government as well. The Modi government had put a lot of stake in the decision, especially as it was questioned by one segment of defence forces.

The project that was started a couple of years ago is moving quite smoothly and that is what this government had desired. Girl students who have been making news stories every passing year as they are the ones who top in most of the board exams could not have been denied their right to study in Sainik Schools; however, earlier governments did not go for it.
Notwithstanding what girls' admission in Sainik Schools which started as a pilot project has now gone mainstream as more and more girls are willing to be part of the prestigious schools. These schools not just deliver quality education but impart a higher level of discipline required for the armed forces to serve the nation.
