Who Is Konda Surekha?

Konda Surekha's political journey began in 1995 when she was elected to Mandal Parishad. Subsequently, in 1996, she assumed the role of PCC member, followed by her election as MLA from Shayampet in 1999.

During this period, she held several significant positions, such as Congress Legislature Party Treasurer, membership in the Women & Child Welfare Committee, Health, and Primary Education Standing Committee, and appointment as an AICC Member in 2000.

Her political career continued with her election as MLA from Shayampet in 2004, during which she served as an official spokesperson for the Congress party. In 2005, she became an Ex-Officio Member of the Municipal Corporation. In 2009, Konda Surekha achieved victory as the Parkal MLA and subsequently took on the role of Minister for Women's Development and Child Welfare, Disabled & Juvenile Welfare.

While serving in YS Rajasekhara Reddy's cabinet, Konda Surekha resigned in the aftermath of YSR's death when his son, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, was not appointed Chief Minister, despite having the majority of MLA support. Her resignation on July 4, 2011, was driven by her support for Jagan's cause and concerns related to YSR's name mentioned in an FIR.

In the by-polls held on June 12, 2012, she contested from the Parkal assembly constituency as a YSR Congress Party candidate.

In July 2013, citing ill-treatment from members of the Jagan Mohan Reddy Party, Konda Surekha resigned from the YSRC party. Shortly before the Indian general elections in 2014, she joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party and contested from the Warangal-East Assembly constituency, winning with a significant majority of 55,085 votes.

However, in 2018, Konda Surekha and her husband resigned from the TRS party and joined the Indian National Congress (INC). On December 7, 2023, she was sworn in as a cabinet minister in Telangana.
