Thousands Protest In Hyderabad Over Waqf Act, Slam BJP Government and PM Modi
On Sunday, thousands of people joined a large rally in Hyderabad to express their opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act (WAA) 2025. Before advancing on the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund, people from various social groups and political affiliations gathered at Nizam College Grounds. The protesters brandished the national tricolor while yelling anti-BJP and anti-prime minister Narendra Modi slogans.
Rally attendees declared the WAA unconstitutional, claiming it was enacted with the intent to target minorities and their Waqf properties. Women made up a large portion of the turnout, with many attending the demonstration to voice their opposition to the new law.

TMREIS Chairman Faheem Qureshi, Government Advisor on Minority Affairs Mohd Ali Shabbir, and Saharanpur Member of Parliament Imran Masood were among the prominent individuals who attended the demonstration. Several social activists, representatives of the student union, and well-known social media influencers also attended the event and joined forces to promote the cause.
Police put in place a lot of security measures throughout the city in preparation for the high turnout. Despite the preparations, the rally passed through important roads, causing traffic congestion in central Hyderabad.
Participants in the protest voiced their widespread dissatisfaction with the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, calling on the government to repeal the law because they feel it violates the rights of minorities and their property.
