"The woman committed suicide after a bitter feud with her son over money. She had sold her land for Rs 55 lacs and had decided to divide it equally between her son and daughters but the son fought over it. A case has been registered by the local police and we will be questioning family members", said Preethi Nina, the District Commissioner of Mehbubabad.

Vinoda, a woman from Telangana committed suicide over family dispute following which her son Srinivas fuelled rumours of it being over demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. Talking to media persons Srinivas had said, "She died of shock over Rs 500 and Rs 1000 being banned. She thought all the money she had saved was of no value any more". The DC however, put an end to all rumours by clarifying that the death had nothing to do with ban on high value notes.

Police sources said that the family had Rs 55 lacs in cash which the woman intended to distribute to her children but her son started a fight demanding that all money be handed to him. Vinoda's daughters told the police that she committed suicide after their brother assaulted Vinoda. "We have taken up a case of suspicious death under 174 CrPC. Family members allege family dispute as the reason for suicide. It has no connection with ban on high value notes", said the investigating officer.

Police sources claim that her death is wrongly being attributed to demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes after her son tried to peddle the idea while talking to the media. The local police will begin questioning family members as soon as Vinoda's last rites are completed said sources.
