Telangana Transport Minister Grants 2.5% Dearness Allowance to TGSRTC Employees
Telangana's Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has announced a 2.5% Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC). The decision, made after discussions with RTC management, will benefit nearly 40,000 employees and will take effect from tomorrow, coinciding with International Women's Day. However, this increase is expected to add a financial burden of ₹3.6 crore per month on the RTC.
Speaking on the occasion, Prabhakar highlighted the impact of the Mahalaxmi scheme, under which 150 crore women have traveled for free so far. He noted that the number of daily female passengers has surged by 14 lakh since the scheme's launch.

As part of the government's ongoing commitment to women's empowerment, Telangana is also introducing the "Indira Mahila Shakti" bus service. This initiative aims to support one crore women financially by enabling women's groups to operate buses. In the first phase, 150 buses will be leased through Mandal Mahila Samakhya (Mandal Women's Federation) associations, with plans to expand to 600 buses in total.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is set to inaugurate the Indira Mahila Shakti buses tomorrow, marking another step toward empowering women in the state.
