Telangana Suspect in Constable Killing Shot Dead During Hospital Encounter in Nizamabad

Sheikh Riyaz, accused of murdering constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, was killed by police on October 20, 2025. The incident occurred at Nizamabad Government Hospital when Riyaz allegedly attempted to seize a weapon and fire at officers. He had been taken into custody the previous day for his involvement in the murder of the 42-year-old constable.

Riyaz's arrest followed a manhunt ordered by Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy after Pramod was fatally stabbed while escorting Riyaz to a police station on October 18, 2025. Special teams were deployed to locate Riyaz, who had been on the run since the incident.

Police Encounter with Sheikh Riyaz

While receiving treatment at the hospital on October 20, 2025, Riyaz allegedly tried to attack police officers again. During this altercation, he managed to grab a weapon from one officer and attempted to shoot. In response, police opened fire, resulting in Riyaz's death during the confrontation.

The Nizamabad police reported that prior to his arrest, Riyaz attacked Asif near Sarangapur under Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station limits on October 19, 2025. Asif was assisting police in capturing Riyaz and sustained severe injuries during their struggle. Both men were hospitalized for treatment before Riyaz was detained.

DGP's Statement and Support for Constable's Family

DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed that Riyaz died during the police action and reiterated Telangana Police's commitment to maintaining law and order while targeting hardened criminals. "The Telangana Police Department pays tribute to the martyred constable, Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was brutally murdered by the criminal Sheikh Riyaz. On behalf of the department, I extend my tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty," said DGP Shivadhar Reddy.

The DGP announced an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore for Pramod's family. Additionally, they will receive his last paid salary until retirement, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot under GO 155. Further financial support includes ₹16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and ₹8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund.
