Telangana Municipal Election Results 2026 Live: Congress Wins Big Over BRS in Urban Local Body Polls

The ruling Congress has surged ahead in the Telangana Municipal Polls 2026, with early counting trends showing a clear edge over its rivals. Voting in the February 11 elections recorded a strong turnout of 73.01%, according to the Telangana State Election Commission.

Out of 52,17,413 eligible voters, 38,09,406 cast their votes across 2,569 wards in 116 municipalities and 412 wards in seven municipal corporations.

Counting began at 8.00 a.m. on February 13, with postal ballots opened first, followed by regular ballot boxes as per standard procedure.

Congress Leads Early Ward Results

By around 11.30 a.m., results from 448 wards were available. Congress was leading with victories in 240 wards, followed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) with 140 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had secured 37 wards, while independents and smaller parties were also in the fray in select segments.

In Devarakadra Municipality in Mahabubnagar district, Congress won six of the 12 wards, BRS secured four, BJP won one and an Independent candidate took one ward. The result handed Congress a simple majority in that municipality.

Strong Urban Participation

Polling on February 11 saw robust participation across most urban local bodies.

Among municipalities, Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district recorded the highest turnout at 91.91%, while Nandikonda in Nalgonda district registered the lowest at 59.66%.

Among municipal corporations, Nalgonda posted the highest turnout at 77.36%, while Nizamabad recorded the lowest at 59.12%.

In Vikarabad district, turnout figures stood at 77.10% in Parigi, 75.81% in Kodangal, 74.35% in Vikarabad and 67.54% in Tandur.

Counting Under Tight Supervision

District Collectors and observers monitored counting across the State. In Vikarabad, counting in four municipalities was overseen by District Collector Prateek Jain and General Observer Ravi through webcasting.

Mahabubnagar District Collector Viziendira Boyi supervised proceedings locally, while Gadwal Collector B.M. Santhosh confirmed that counting began peacefully in four municipalities in his district.

Officials followed a structured counting process. In each round, 1,000 ballots were randomly distributed across counting tables. After every round, vote totals and rejected ballots were recorded in the final result sheet and verified by agents before declaration.

Complete ward results are to be confirmed after all counting rounds conclude, following which certificates will be issued to successful candidates.

In Nagarkurnool Municipality, the first round results for eight wards were declared in the morning. Congress candidate P. Chandrakala was among the early winners to collect her certificate.

Security Measures and Next Steps

The Telangana Police warned of strict action against any misbehaviour during counting. Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy said officials on election duty are protected under law and any attempt to intimidate them would be dealt with firmly.

The State Election Commission has scheduled the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected councillors and corporators at 11.30 a.m. on February 16. After the swearing-in, special meetings will be held to elect Mayors and Deputy Mayors in municipal corporations and Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons in municipalities.

As counting continues, Congress appears on course to consolidate its position in urban local bodies across Telangana, with final figures expected later in the day.
