Telangana Colleges New Guidelines: No More Quota For Andhra Pradesh Students; Details Inside

As per GO MS 15, issued by Education Department Secretary Dr. Yogita Rana, 85% of seats in each course offered by educational institutions in the State will be reserved for local candidates from the Osmania University (OU) area, which covers the Telangana region.

The remaining 15% of seats will be unreserved. Candidates classified as locals of the OU area are also eligible to compete for these seats.

Telangana Colleges New Guidelines No more Quota for Andhra Pradesh Students Details Inside

Candidates who have resided in the State for a minimum of 10 years-excluding any period of study outside the State-or those whose parents have lived in the State for at least 10 years, excluding employment outside the State, qualify for the unreserved quota.

As per the order, students whose parents are employed in the State or Central government, public sector corporations, local bodies, universities, or other quasi-public institutions within the State are eligible for the unreserved quota. Similarly, candidates who are spouses of individuals employed in these sectors, including government-recognized educational institutions, can also claim seats under the unreserved category.

These new rules were introduced as the common admission process between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, mandated for 10 years under the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014, concluded this academic year.

Previously, 85% of seats in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the State were reserved for locals of the OU area, while the remaining 15% were open to all, allowing students from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to compete. Andhra Pradesh followed the same admission process until now.
