Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Meets K. Jana Reddy to Discuss Naxal Issues and Peace Talks

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a significant step on Monday by visiting former Minister K. Jana Reddy's home to address the ongoing Operation Kagar and the larger Naxal issue. Following a recent call by the Peace Talks Committee, the Chief Minister was requested to take the lead in mediating peace negotiations between Maoist organizations and the Union Government.

Distinguished members of the Peace Talks Committee, including Durga Prasad, Professor Haragopal, Professor Anwar Khan, and Convenor Justice Chandrakumar, met with Chief Minister Reddy on Sunday at his home in Jubilee Hills. The committee presented a memorandum at this meeting asking the chief minister to push for a ceasefire at Karregutta, which is located on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border and has seen a spike in military activity in recent weeks. In an effort to end the current war, they also demanded that the Chief Minister start peace negotiations with Maoist groups.

Chief Minister Reddy responded by emphasizing that the government does not only see the Naxal issue as a law and order issue, but also as a social issue. In addition to stating his intention to confer with K. Jana Reddy, a senior leader with prior experience mediating peace negotiations with Maoists, he emphasized the significance of tackling the underlying causes of Naxalism, including as socioeconomic problems. Additionally, the Chief Minister said that the issue would be further reviewed at the next State Cabinet meeting.

It is anticipated that former Minister K. Jana Reddy, who has been instrumental in peace talks in the past, will provide insightful advice on how to handle the current crisis. His background may help close the divide between Maoist organizations and the state and national administrations, opening the door for possible peace negotiations.

With an emphasis on addressing underlying socioeconomic causes, this effort is a proactive step by the Telangana administration to address the Naxal issue through conversation. It is anticipated that the Chief Minister's talks with K. Jana Reddy will be crucial in determining the state's future approach to handling the Maoist threat.
