Telangana: 30 Monkeys Found Dead In Nandikonda Water Tank, Negligence Blamed

At least 30 monkeys were found dead in a drinking water tank in Telangana's Nalgonda district. The bodies were found floating in the tank located in ward number 1 of the Nandikonda Municipality, as reported by the police.

Initial investigations suggest that the tragedy occurred due to negligence, as the lid of the water tank was left open, trapping the monkeys inside. Municipality workers removed the deceased monkeys from the tank following complaints from residents about a foul smell emanating from it. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

Former Telangana Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA KT Rama Rao criticised the ruling Congress, accusing the government of prioritising politics over public health.

KTR expressed his dismay on X (formely known as Twitter), highlighting the neglect of standard cleaning and maintenance protocols in the Telangana Municipal department.

KTR shared a tweet by a user named Nayini Anurag Reddy, which contained visuals of the deceased monkeys. Social media users criticized the municipal authorities for negligence, blaming them for leaving the tank open and leading to the monkeys' deaths.

According to reports, the same drinking water was supplied to residents for several days without proper checks. The Nandikonda municipal authorities have been providing water to residents from the overhead tank where the monkey bodies were found floating. The water tank is located in the first ward of the Nandikonda municipality, adjacent to Vijay Vihar.
