Revanth Reddy Declares ‘Dharma Yuddham’ Against Modi, Vows Nationwide Stir Over BC Quota
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has called upon the Backward Classes to launch a dharma yuddham against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for allegedly denying them their rightful share in reservations. Addressing a massive gathering at the BCs Poru Garjana protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday, Revanth declared that this was a now-or-never moment for BCs. He warned that if the Centre fails to approve Telangana's 42% BC reservation, a nationwide movement will be launched to bring down the Modi government.
Revanth demanded that the BJP-led government pass a constitutional amendment to include Telangana's BC quota in the Ninth Schedule, ensuring it is legally protected. The protest, led by BC leader Jajula Srinivas Goud, saw support from over a dozen political parties, including the Samajwadi Party, NCP, AIMIM, CPI, Congress, and multiple BC welfare associations.

Drawing a parallel with past struggles, Revanth reminded the crowd that Scheduled Castes had waged similar battles for their rights, and it was now the BC community's turn to fight back. He asserted that their demand is legitimate and warned against underestimating the BCs. He reiterated that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress stand with them and promised to unite political parties and BC organizations across India to ensure justice.
Revanth accused the Modi government of blocking Telangana's BC quota despite the state following all legal and procedural requirements. Telangana had already conducted a caste survey and collected empirical data, which courts have mandated as necessary for increasing reservations.
Issuing a direct challenge to the Prime Minister, Revanth said Telangana is not asking for 42% BC quota implementation in Gujarat or other BJP-ruled states but only in Telangana, which has done its homework. He questioned why Modi is obstructing their efforts and challenged him to pass the bill in Parliament. He promised to organize a massive event at Secunderabad Parade Grounds, where 10 lakh people would honor him if the bill is passed. If not, the same 10 lakh would gather to show BC strength in a dharma yuddham.
Warning Modi against trying to dominate states in the name of central authority, he invoked history, pointing out that the Nizams, the Razakars, and even the father-son duo, in an apparent dig at KCR and KTR, all thought they were invincible but were eventually rejected by the people. He warned that if Modi continues to betray BCs, he will meet the same fate.
Revanth accused the BJP of deliberately delaying BC empowerment while swiftly passing controversial laws despite lacking a clear majority in Parliament. He questioned why the Modi government was able to push through triple talaq, the Article 370 repeal, and the CAA despite opposition but is hesitant about increasing BC reservations even when most parties support it.
He also slammed the BJP for refusing to conduct a caste census since 2019, calling it a deliberate ploy to suppress BC rights. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly demanded a caste census so that reservations are based on real data but alleged that Modi fears this because it would expose the injustice done to BCs.
Highlighting Telangana's proactive approach, Revanth pointed out that on March 17, the state assembly passed two key bills-one increasing BC reservations in local bodies to 42% and another enhancing BC, SC, and ST quotas in education and employment, taking total reservations in the state to 67%. The Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies) Bill-2025 aims to rectify past injustices. Until now, BCs had only 18% to 23% reservation in local bodies, depending on municipal and panchayat demographics.
Meanwhile, TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud and Social Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar raised questions about the absence of the BRS party at the BC protest in Delhi. They accused the KCR-led party of ignoring BC concerns despite claiming to support social justice.
Revanth made it clear that the fight for BC rights is far from over and warned the BJP that if their demands are not met, the movement would intensify across the country. He asserted that this is just the beginning and that if BCs are denied justice, they will take this battle to every corner of India.
