Rescue Efforts Intensify As Teams Close In On Trapped Workers In Telangana Tunnel Collapse

In a race against time, over 500 rescuers are working tirelessly to save eight workers trapped in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana, which partially collapsed six days ago. The rescue operation, now in its critical phase, has seen significant progress as teams reach the "zero point" and deploy advanced technology to locate the trapped individuals.

Telangana Tunnel Collapse Update

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and thermal scanners have been deployed to identify the exact locations of the workers. Rescue teams have marked eight key spots where signs of the trapped individuals have been detected. Rat miners, known for their expertise in navigating tight spaces, are also on-site, attempting to penetrate the debris and confirm the presence of the workers.

Nagar Kurnool District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) and a medical team from Osmania Hospital have arrived at the site, with ambulances stationed at the tunnel entrance. Medical officials are on standby, prepared to provide immediate assistance as soon as the workers are brought out. Reports suggest that the trapped individuals could be rescued at any moment.

Authorities Dismiss Rumors, Appeal for Calm

Amid the intense rescue efforts, Nagarkurnool District Collector B. Santhosh addressed the media to dismiss rumors that bodies had been found using GPR technology. "Some fake news is circulating that bodies have been found. This is not true. We request the media to refrain from spreading unverified information. Any official updates will be communicated directly from the Collector's office," he stated.

Multi-Agency Collaboration in Full Swing

The rescue operation is a collaborative effort involving the Army, Navy, Singareni Collieries, South Central Railway, and state and central disaster response teams. The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd has deployed 200 personnel, while South Central Railway has provided specialized equipment, including plasma cutters and Brocho cutting machines, to aid in the operation.

The trapped workers include two engineers, two operators, and four laborers from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Jharkhand. Their identities have been confirmed as Manoj Kumar, Sri Niwas, Sunny Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Sandeep Sahu, Jegta Xess, Santosh Sahu, and Anuj Sahu.
