Jal Shakti Ministry Calls May 7 Meeting With Krishna River Basin States To Discuss Tribunal-II Award
A crucial meeting with the irrigation ministers of the four states that make up the Krishna river basin-Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana-has been set for May 7 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The purpose of the conference, which will be presided over by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, is to talk about the award made by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II and the recent gazette notice about it.
Long-standing disputes between the riparian States over the distribution of water from the Krishna River are the backdrop for this high-level meeting. To handle and settle interstate conflicts pertaining to water distribution, the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II was established. However, over the years, a number of administrative and legal setbacks have impeded the implementation of its report-cum-award.

Now that the award has been announced in the gazette, the Ministry of Jal Shakti is working to encourage the participating States to reach an agreement. The details of the tribunal's recommendations and the next steps for putting them into practice are anticipated to be the main topics of the conference.
The Chief Secretaries of Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh have all received official notice of the meeting from the Ministry. Prior to the meeting, states have also been asked to confirm the attendance of their respective irrigation ministers and submit complete delegation data.
The Ministry hopes to make a big move in resolving the dispute over the distribution of water from the Krishna River by calling this meeting. It is anticipated that the talks will establish a framework for cooperation, guaranteeing that the tribunal's decision may be carried out with the consent of all participating nations.
The Central Government is making a significant effort with this summit to help the States coordinate and get closer to resolving the protracted water-sharing conflict. The result might have a significant impact on how the water resources in the Krishna basin are managed going forward.
