IndiGo Flight to Hyderabad Diverted to Mumbai After Bomb Threat Alert

An IndiGo flight travelling from Kuwait to Hyderabad was forced to divert to Mumbai early Tuesday after airport authorities received a threat email warning of a bomb on board. The alert triggered a full-scale emergency response at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Threat Email Warned of a 'Human Bomb'

According to initial information, the threat message was received at the Delhi airport and warned of a 'human bomb' on the aircraft operating under callsign 6E1234. An official statement from IndiGo is still awaited.

Security agencies, fire teams and medical units were placed on standby as the Airbus A321-251NX approached Mumbai for an emergency landing. Flight data showed the aircraft departed Kuwait at 1:56 am and touched down safely in Mumbai at 8:10 am.

Recent Threat at Hyderabad Airport

This incident comes just over a week after another international flight headed for Hyderabad was diverted due to a similar scare on November 23. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport had received an email claiming a bomb was placed on a Bahrain to Hyderabad flight, prompting authorities to send it to Mumbai as a precaution.

Police later confirmed the threat was false. "Security checking was carried out there and nothing suspicious was found and bomb threat turned out to be hoax," an official had said.

Investigation Underway

In the previous case, airport officials filed a complaint and a case was registered for sending the threatening email. A similar investigation is expected in the latest incident as authorities work to trace the sender behind the new threat warning.

Airline Response Awaited

IndiGo is yet to release a statement regarding the emergency diversion, passenger safety checks or subsequent steps taken after the bomb threat alert. Further updates are expected once the airline and security agencies complete their assessment.
