Hyderabad: Woman Arrested For Selling 'Ganja' In Turmeric Packets

Hydearabad's Prohibition and Excise department on Moday arrested a women in allegations of selling illeagal Cannabis aka Ganja. The accused was identified as Neha from Nanakramguda who used to sell ganja in turmeric powder packets. The officials were conducting a surprise check when they discovered the unusual packaging.

During the inspection, the team visited a grocery store and noticed something odd about the turmeric sachets. "Usually, any turmeric sachet would be soft. But when the excise team officials checked, they found something suspicious and opened it only to find dry ganja," an official said. This led to the immediate detention of Neha Bhai, 25.

Unique Modus Operandi

The excise officials seized around 10 sachets of ganja, which were being sold under the name 'Atlas' turmeric powder with standard grade. Upon learning about Neha Bhai's arrest, her family members fled the area. The family was allegedly sourcing the contraband from agency areas along the Andhra Odisha Border (AoB) and using various methods to sell it.

Neha Bhai was reportedly selling each sachet containing over 10 grams of ganja for Rs.600 while running a grocery store business simultaneously. She used a code word -' Maal' for these transactions. The department is intensifying its efforts to curb such illegal activities in the city.

Excise Department's Response

When contacted, Prohibition and Excise department Director VB Kamalasan Reddy told media that more details would emerge during the investigation. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against those involved in selling ganja if they did not change their ways.

The department's crackdown on ganja peddlers continues as they aim to eliminate such illegal activities from Hyderabad. This recent bust highlights their commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the city.

This incident serves as a reminder of the innovative yet illegal methods peddlers use to distribute contraband substances. The authorities remain vigilant and are determined to bring offenders to justice.
