Hyderabad is under a yellow alert for unseasonal rain on Tuesday, February 24, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting evening thunderstorms and potential disruptions, while surrounding districts like Sangareddy and Vikarabad may also experience rain.

Evening storms expected across the city

According to the IMD, scattered thunderstorms may develop by evening, bringing brief but intense showers in several localities. The advisory comes amid concerns over lightning, squalls and sudden gusty winds associated with convective weather systems.

The department also noted that hazy conditions could continue during early morning and late night hours up to February 27.

Authorities have urged people to keep an eye on local forecasts and plan outdoor travel carefully through the day.

Rain activity in surrounding districts

Apart from Hyderabad, neighbouring districts are also likely to experience rain. Weather enthusiast T Balaji said, "scattered storms and moderate rains are expected in Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Kamareddy, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Suryapet till evening."

However, conditions are expected to stabilise after nightfall, with mainly dry weather predicted across Telangana.

Heavy rainfall recorded on Monday

The state already witnessed significant rainfall on Monday. Nalgonda district recorded the highest precipitation at 70 mm. Bhadradri Kothagudem and parts of Nalgonda followed with 43.8 mm.

Within Hyderabad, Bahadurpura logged the heaviest downpour at 42.8 mm, while Bandlaguda recorded 18 mm.

Advisory for residents

In view of the alert, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and sudden squalls. Commuters and office-goers are advised to factor in possible evening disruptions and traffic delays before heading out.

With unstable weather expected through the day, residents have been asked to monitor updates and take precautions during lightning and heavy showers.
