Hyderabad Weather Today: Peak Heatwave To Continue On April 17, Thunderstorm Likely From April 19

Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana are set to remain under intense heat on Friday, April 17, with temperatures expected to stay near peak summer levels. While the city is likely to remain extremely hot through the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated some relief may arrive later this weekend, with thunderstorms forecast from Sunday, April 19.

Across northern and southern districts of Telangana, temperatures are expected to rise as high as 45 degrees Celsius, while Hyderabad may see the mercury hover between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius.

Severe Heatwave Conditions Likely Across Telangana On Friday

The sweltering conditions are expected to persist across the state through Friday, especially during the afternoon hours when heat stress is likely to be most intense. Northern and southern Telangana districts are expected to remain the hottest, with daytime temperatures likely in the 43-45 degrees Celsius range.

In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature could climb up to 43 degrees Celsius, making outdoor movement difficult during peak afternoon hours. Despite the extreme heat, no formal alert has been issued for the city by IMD for Friday.

Telangana Weatherman Predicts Evening Storms In Isolated Pockets

Weather observer T. Balaji, widely followed on X under the handle 'Telangana Weatherman', said that while heatwave conditions would continue through the day, isolated storm activity could develop by evening in some parts of the state.

Balaji, who is often noted for his local weather updates, said Hyderabad's maximum temperature on Friday could touch 43 degrees Celsius.

Jagtial Hottest In Telangana, Hyderabad Crosses 42 Degrees

On Thursday, Jagtial recorded the highest maximum temperature in Telangana at 44.5 degrees Celsius, underlining the severity of the ongoing heatwave spell across the state.

Within Hyderabad, Himayatnagar emerged as one of the hottest locations, recording a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius. The sharp rise in temperatures has added to discomfort levels across the city, particularly in densely built-up urban pockets.

IMD Hyderabad Issues Yellow Alert For Thunderstorm From April 19

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Telangana for April 19 and April 20 in view of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and squally weather conditions. The alert suggests that parts of the state may witness unstable weather as the current heatwave phase begins to transition.

Alongside the thunderstorm warning, the department has also forecast hazy conditions across all zones of Hyderabad until April 20.

With both heatwave conditions and a thunderstorm spell expected over the next few days, residents in Hyderabad and across Telangana may need to plan travel carefully, avoid prolonged afternoon exposure, and remain alert to sudden evening weather changes later in the weekend.
