Hyderabad Rains: Schools To Remain Closed Till This Date Due To Flood-Like Situation | Check Weather Forecast
Heavy rains have caused significant waterlogging in various parts of Hyderabad. As a precaution, all primary and secondary schools in the city have been closed. Initially, authorities announced to shut schools on Monday due to heavy rainfall, however, it is expected that educational institutes will remain closed for next couple of days, i.e till September 4. Sources reported that authorities will soon publish a notification to address Schools, students and their parents.
The decision of a holiday in schools was made by the Hyderabad district collector to ensure students' safety.

"Due to the forecast of heavy rains in Hyderabad District, all primary and secondary schools, under all managements (government, aided, and Private), are hereby declared a holiday on Monday, 02-09-2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the children," stated the District Collector on X.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed government officials to stay on high alert. Dr K Nagaratnam, Director of the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, reported that Telangana is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next three days. "Red warnings have been issued for today and tomorrow in Telangana. East and Northeast districts are under red warnings, while north and south districts have been issued orange warnings for the same period. All districts are under heavy rainfall warnings. GHMC is expected to see moderate to heavy rains at times. Hyderabad is under an orange warning for today and tomorrow," he said.
Impact on Transportation
The heavy rains have also affected train services on South Central Railway (SCR). Several passenger trains were either cancelled, partially cancelled or diverted due to waterlogging over tracks at multiple locations. A section of gravel beneath the railway track near Kesamudram in Mahabubabad district was washed away by floodwaters, leaving passengers stranded at Kesamudram railway station.
In response to these conditions, Chief Minister Reddy has urged residents not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. Those living in low-lying areas should remain especially cautious and contact authorities if they need assistance. The CM has also directed ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs to stay in their respective areas and engage in relief operations.
Precautionary Measures
The state government has opened a control room at the state Secretariat to monitor the situation closely. Additionally, rivulets have swelled in some districts due to the heavy rains, disrupting road connections between villages.
