Hyderabad Rains: Holiday Announced For Schools, But People Not Happy
The government has announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Hyderabad in view of heavy rains. However, the decision to announce a holiday at the last minute has not gone well with netizens.
The Hyderabad collector has declared the closure of all educational institutions in the city for today. "Important Announcement: In light of the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad, the government has declared today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad. Stay indoors and stay safe," posted the collector of Hyderabad on microblogging platform X.

However, numerous schools have planned to observe Teachers' Day celebrations on this occasion. The last-minute announcement irked the people.
"Just minutes before school opening From an unverified account..Shame #ResignkTR," posted one user. "Too late. GHMC is taking faster decisions than the Education department & CMO," a user on X slammed the state government.
Expressing his displeasure over the last-minute announcement, second user said, "This announcement must have come a bit earlier. Most of the kids would have already left for the school by the time your announcement came. Wish we were little proactive."
"Too late. GHMC is taking faster decisions than the Education department & CMO," third netizen said.
"All students have reached their educational institution. What should they do now?" another user asked.
Last week, schools in Hyderabad were also closed. This closure took place on August 29 and 30 in order to facilitate the TSPC Group 2 Service Recruitment examination. The Secretary of TSPC requested the District Educational Officers to declare a holiday for these dates, as several schools were designated as examination centers.
Meanwhile, intense rainfall in Hyderabad led to significant waterlogging and traffic jams throughout the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city today.
Minister Thalasani Srinivasyadav has instructed officials to maintain a high level of vigilance, swiftly clear roads of any debris, and closely monitor water levels in crucial reservoirs. Residents have been advised to venture outdoors only in case of emergencies.
