Hyderabad Gets Major Traffic Boost As Shastripuram ROB Set To Open Soon, Improving Access To NH-44 And Airport
After nearly four years of construction, the Shastripuram road-over-bridge (ROB) in Hyderabad's Old City is ready for use. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is expected to open the bridge to traffic soon, offering relief to commuters who have long faced delays at the railway crossing in the area.

Officials said only minor work on the service roads remains and it will likely be completed within a week, according to a report by DC.
Bridge built to ease railway crossing congestion
The 490-metre-long ROB project was launched in 2022 by GHMC in coordination with South Central Railway at an estimated cost of about ₹71 crore. The bridge has been constructed to reduce congestion at the railway level crossing in Uddamgadda, where vehicles frequently experienced long waiting times whenever trains passed.
Authorities believe the new flyover will significantly improve traffic flow in the locality and eliminate one of the major bottlenecks in the Old City road network.
Key connectivity for airport and national highway traffic
The Shastripuram ROB serves as an important route for commuters heading towards National Highway-44, the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. With the bridge becoming operational, travel time for people using this corridor is expected to reduce considerably.
Officials said the project is part of efforts to strengthen connectivity in the southern parts of Hyderabad and improve movement between residential areas and major highways.
Residents hope bridge opens before Ramzan
Local residents have welcomed the completion of the bridge and are hoping it will be opened to the public before the Ramzan festival.
"This ROB will provide huge relief to residents. Authorities have also built a separate pathway for pedestrians on the flyover," said Mohammed Khadeer, a social worker.
Another resident, Md. Sayeed, said the community had been waiting years for the project to be completed. "We have waited for this bridge for a long time. It will greatly help commuters in this area," he said.
Shaik Faheem, a resident of Mailardevpally, said people in the locality had already started celebrating the project's completion. "With fuel prices increasing, such shortcut routes will help people save time and fuel," he added.
Once opened, the Shastripuram ROB is expected to ease daily travel for thousands of commuters while improving connectivity between Hyderabad's Old City and key transport corridors.
