The South Central Railway network, which serves Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and other regions, is particularly affected, with waterlogging on multiple tracks leading to major travel disruptions.

Weather and Flooding Crisis

The heavy rains, triggered by a low-pressure system, have caused rivers across both states to swell, leaving many areas inundated and several communities stranded.

The intensity of the rains has led to road closures, disconnecting regions and making rescue operations more challenging.

Emergency services, including the national and state disaster response forces, have been mobilized to evacuate thousands of people from flood-hit areas to relief camps.

    Government Response

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally reached out to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, expressing concern over the situation and assuring them of all possible assistance from the central government.

Both chief ministers are closely monitoring the situation, with Revanth Reddy holding an emergency review meeting where he instructed officials to stay vigilant and take immediate actions to mitigate the damage.

He also urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, as more rain is expected.

    Casualties and Damage

Telangana has reported nine deaths so far due to rain-related incidents, while Andhra Pradesh has also witnessed nine fatalities, with one person still missing.

The floods have hit cities and rural areas alike, with Hyderabad, the state capital of Telangana, particularly affected by waterlogging. The city has declared a holiday for schools on Monday to ensure the safety of students.

    Weather Alerts and Affected Areas

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Telangana, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Monday.

In Andhra Pradesh, the worst-hit areas include the Vijayawada district, where the Budameru rivulet has overflowed, causing significant flooding in various parts of the city. Additionally, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Parvatipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, and Nandyala districts are on high alert for more rainfall.

    Relief Efforts

As the situation unfolds, relief operations are in full swing, with officials working around the clock to provide immediate assistance to those affected.

Temporary shelters have been set up to accommodate evacuees, and efforts are being made to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.

With more rain predicted in the coming days, authorities are bracing for further challenges and urging the public to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines.
