Behind The Headlines: Ponnala Lakhsmaiah Resignation Bombshell Amid Telangana Congress Seat Suspense
The Congress is taken aback by the news of Ponnala Lakshmaiah, the former PCC chief and BC leader, leaving the party. Ponnala sent his resignation letter to the party president Kharge notifying him of this decision on Friday. It appears that Ponnala was displeased with the Janagama seat being neglected and was given a significant offer from BRS. As per reports, KTR, the minister, will be visiting Ponnala's house to persuade him to join the party.
Ponnala Lakshmaiah's unexpected departure comes at a crucial time when the party is focusing on its campaign to secure Telangana. The politician, Ponnala, had been a significant figure in the party from its inception, serving as a minister in the YSR Cabinet for two consecutive terms. Even after the change in leadership, Ponnala continued as a minister under Roshaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy. Additionally, he played a key role as the first PCC chief of Telangana after the state's partition. Currently, the Congress leadership is finalising the seat allocations, set to be announced soon. However, Ponnala's discontentment arose from the decision to assign him the Janagama seat, which he had represented for a considerable period of time.

In his letter to Kharge, Ponnala expressed his disappointment over the lack of priority given to those who have dedicated themselves to the party. He alleged that newcomers in the district were being awarded seats if they provided lands and villas. Ponnala clarified that he felt humiliated within the party. It appears that his decision is linked to the ongoing campaign to allocate the Janagama seat to Kommuri Pratap Reddy.
In his letter, Ponnala elaborated on the recent happenings within the party and expressed his heartfelt decision to depart. PCC chief Revanth's response to the letter was filled with anger as he voiced his apprehension about the core party objective of social justice being sidelined. The letter also contained sensational allegations of the party being involved in questionable activities of seats being sold.
Recently, there have been indications that Ponnala will be joining the BRS party. Reports suggest that Minister KTR will personally visit Ponnala's residence to extend an invitation to join the party. Along with the invitation as the BC leader, there is now curiosity about whether Ponnala will be offered the Janagama seat or if alternative arrangements will be made. Additionally, a meeting was conducted within the BRS party to discuss the Janagama seat.
As the campaigning unfolds, the senior leader's exit has become a major topic of discussion and bigger worries for the Congress that other leaders may follow Ponnala Lakhsmaiah's example.
