'No Government Role' In Allu Arjun's Arrest: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Responds

In an unfortunate incident that has sparked significant controversy, Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was taken into custody by Hyderabad police on December 13, 2024, following the tragic demise of a 35-year-old woman. This incident occurred during the premiere of his film 'Pushpa 2: The Rule' at Sandhya Theatre, where a large crowd resulted in a deadly stampede.

Amidst tight security, Allu Arjun was escorted from his home to Chikkadpally police station and later underwent a medical examination at Gandhi Hospital. The tragic event took place on December 4, leading to the woman's death due to asphyxiation and the hospitalization of her eight-year-old son, who was with her at the time.

Allu Arjun Arrested Revanth Reddy

The case against Allu Arjun, including his security detail and the theatre's management, was lodged under sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as per a complaint from the deceased woman's family. The complaint was rooted in the chaos of December 4, when fans, attempting to catch a glimpse of the actor at the premiere, were caught in a stampede. The theatre management's failure to announce the actor's visit or to arrange adequate security measures added to the tragedy.
Allu Arjun's Legal Response and Compensation Offer

Following the arrest, Allu Arjun sought legal remedy by petitioning the Telangana High Court to dismiss the FIR against him. In a gesture of goodwill, he also announced a compensation of ₹25 lakh to the victim's family and offered his personal support. Prior to his arrest, the authorities had detained three individuals associated with the theatre, including one of its owners, in relation to the woman's death, indicating a broader investigation into the incident.

The incident has led to widespread criticism of the Congress government's handling of the situation by both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the opposition party in Telangana. BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar argued that Allu Arjun, a celebrated national award-winning actor, was subjected to unfair treatment. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao echoed this sentiment, stating, "Treating Allu Arjun like a common criminal is unjust," and pointed out the real issue of crowd management failure rather than the actor's direct involvement.

Telangana's Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made it clear that the state government played no part in Allu Arjun's arrest, underscoring that legal procedures were merely being followed. The controversy surrounding the actor's arrest has ignited a debate on several fronts including the legal treatment of celebrities, the pivotal role of event management, and the imperative need for ensuring public safety during large-scale events.
