Rail Budget 2016: Here are some interesting facts you need to know about Indian Railways

New Delhi, Feb 25: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu is set to present his second Rail Budget in the Lok Sabha today.

Prabhu, who will be accompanied by Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, is scheduled to leave from Rail Bhawan carrying Rail Budget documents at 11:25 am and will present the Budget in Lok Sabha at 12 noon.

Here are some interesting facts you need to know about the Indian Railways

Fastest and slowest trains

The New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express which runs on an average speed of 91kmph and touches a top speed of 150kmph is the fastest train in India while Nilgiri Express which runs with an average speed of 10 kmph is the slowest running train of India.

Trains with longest and shortest routes

The Vivek Express plying between Dibrugarh and Kanyakumari which covers a distance of 4,273km has the distinction of being India's longest run train.

A train running between Nagpur and Ajni covers just 3 km distance. The train caters to the need of crew who travels from Nagpur station to the workshop at Ajni.

Non-stop longest and train with most halts

Trivandrum-Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express travels non-stop between Vadodara and Kota. It covers a distance of 528 km.

With 115 halts in its route the Howrah-Amritsar Express has highest number of stoppage in the route.

Amazing two stations located at the same place

Srirampur and Belapur in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district has the pride of two stations at the same location. These two stations are located on the opposite sides of the track.

Most unreliable train

Guwahati-Trivandrum Express comes under the most unreliable train in Indian Railways. The train gets delayed on an average by ten to twelve hours.

Longest, shortest station names

Ib, near Jharsuguda in Odisha and Od, near Anand in Gujarat with only two characters in its name is the shortest name of railway station while Venkatanarasimharajuvaripeta in Tamil Nadu is the longest name of a Railway station in India.
