(Pics) Amethi: Rahul sheds 'Shehzada' tag, offers seat to old lady
Amethi (UP), Jan 23: Congress vice-President Rahul Gandhi's first visit to Amethi after being announced the chief of party's poll campaign committee was not as smooth as it should have been.
Call it signs of a looming political disappointment even in their stronghold Amethi, he and Priyanka reached the place about five hours late due to bad weather.
As Congress intensifies the pre-Lok Sabha election campaigns in Amethi, which is their stronghold, there are visible traits of changed opinions. Otherwise why would they greet their 'Shehzada' (Rahul Gandhi) with black flags?
Despite that, Rahul offered a seat to an old woman in his car. Unfazed by the growing resent against the party, he stopped and promised a solution for the protestors too.
True, that the black-flags were shown by AAP workers, but members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and Jan Kalyan Samiti also joined them.
Rahul Gandhi accused the Akhilesh Yadav government for not using the central funds properly and said that the Centre is always willing to support development in a state. As examples, he set the NREGS and the National Rural Health Missions started by the government.
"We believe in action and not in words. Various projects were executed by us, from women self-help groups to national highways and many others. But poor electric supply and bad roads come under the purview of the state government," he said.
The Congress convoy is likely to attend a series of meetings in Amethi and visit a few villages to inspect the various schemes that the Centre has introduced.
Meanwhile, AAP's Kumar Vishwas, who threw an electoral challenge at the Rahul government in Amethi, said that the two-day visit was a political "picnic". He further said,"Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are least interested in the progress and development of Amethi. Rahul rarely speaks or raises any issue in Parliament. We want that some serious talk and discussions."
