As Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government completes a year of governance, common people of the country had lots of expectations from the new government.

On May 26, 2014, Narendra Modi, a man who had an humble beginnings as a tea-seller along with his father, took oath as the 15th prime minister of India, along with his council of ministers. After a decade of UPA rule, the NDA government rose to power with a landslide victory, with a promise of "acche din" (Good days), during 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

PM Modi constituted a compact cabinet, with astute leaders. As 12 months of Modi government have been completed and another four years are left, for the completion of its first term, let us take a brief look at how the top ministers in the Modi government fared in 1 year?

Profile: Union Minister of Home Affairs

Profile: Union Minister of Home Affairs

Performance: From contentious issues like Kashmir, terrorism, attacks on churches, Rajnath Singh, also an MP from Lucknow, has dealt with these issues brilliantly.

In January this year, Rajnath Singh had said, "India wants good relations with Pakistan, which should not resort to ceasefire violations."

In February this year, against the backdrop of attacks on some churches in Delhi recently, Rajnath had assured Christians that security at their religious places will be stepped up as he asserted that any discrimination on the basis of religion will not be tolerated.

Singh also met farmers and shared their pain due to crop damage in various states. He visited storm-hit Bihar. He also showed his concern for Kashmiri Pandits. Singh also bridged the gap with Northeast states by visiting Tripura and Manipur.

On Thursday, January 1, this year, Rajnath launched women safety mobile application of Delhi Police, "Himmat", that allows women to send a distress call to Police Control Room and their relatives in case of any emergency.

On Social Media: The veteran politician has 1.48 million followers on Twitter and has 3.3 million likes on Facebook.

Performance:In Jan this year, Nitin Gadkari announced that the central government would spend Rs 50,000 crore to improve the condition of roads in Uttar Pradesh.

In February, he inaugurated a web-based payment monitoring system to make the payment process for national highways-related work and services more transparent.

Gadkari also said that the government is working on an ambitious plan to build one smart city each at the country's 12 major ports, at an estimated total investment of Rs 50,000 crore.

In March,Gadkari sought to dispel fears of farmers on the new land bill saying government will not do anything which is against their interests and is ready to accept any suggestions from the opposition.

In April,Gadkari announced that the Centre is planning to spend Rs five lakh crore in the next 10 years on developing waterways in the country.

Gadkari, recently declared, "By the end of December this year, we will award road projects worth Rs 20,000 crore in the North-East. These will be spread across the region for improving the infrastructure, which will help the economy of the North-East."

Performance: Soon after assuming the charge as Union Minister, in June 2014, Maneka Gandhiset up two new email accounts and a Facebook account for anyone who needs help.

In July 2014, Maneka proposed to set up an exclusive bank for women having branches across the country.

In November 2014,Maneka decided to open three new child helpline centres in Kolkata, Gurgaon and Chennai which will cover 500 cities and towns.

In Jan this year,Maneka announced that any innovative district which succeeds in attaining a balanced sex ratio would get a reward of Rs 1 crore.

She also called for a need to fight the scourge of female foeticide which claims "2000 lives of girls daily."

In March 2015,Maneka launched the revised "standard operating procedures" (SOP) to ensure care and protection of children found on railway premises.

She also asked various chambers of commerce and industry to ensure constitution of internal complaints committees to deal with sexual harassment cases.

In April 2015,Maneka informed Parliament that a total amount of Rs 3,000 crore was allocated to Nirbhaya Fund in 2013-2014, 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Performance:Uma Bharti was assigned with a specially created ministry for cleaning the holy river along with water resources ministry,who had promised to cleanse the river during campaigning in Varanasi.

In July 2014,Uma said that River Ganga rejuvenation programme would not be successful without cleaning up of river Yamuna.

In August 2014,Uma assured Arunachal Pradesh for integrated management of all the water resources of the north-eastern state. “

She had also announced that the year "2015-16 will be observed as water conservation year and a public movement will be launched during the year to conserve the precious resource".

In Sept 2014, she launched a web portal, http://nmcg.nic.in/, to connect with the public on the ambitious project of the NDA Government.

In Oct 2014, shediscussed various issues related to rejuvenation of river Ganga with scientists at the city-based National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).

In Nov 2014,Uma emphasised that "inter-linking of rivers would enhance irrigation facilities to 90 per cent of farm lands in the country."

In Dec 2014,she pledged to clean the Ganga and the Sangam in 3 years.

On Social Media: On Facebook, Uma Bharti has got over 1 lakh likes and on Twitter, she has 46.6K followers.

Performance:Ravishankar Prasad, one of the most articulate BJP leaders returned to the union cabinet with a bagful of experience.

In August 2014, Prasadsaid that the 'Digital India Project' would transform the country in terms of digitally empowering every citizen with broadband connectivity and national optical fibre network.

In Oct 2014,Prasad said that India favours democratisation and broad-basing of the global affairs of telecommunications and internet governance.

In Dec 2014, Prasad informed thatRs 18,000 crore worth of investment proposals have been received till now for the 'Digital India Programme'.

In Jan 2015,Prasad appealed to US businesses to invest in the country in a big way specially in ambitious programmes like Make in India.

"The government is open to the use of satellite technology, drones or special balloons for providing broadband connectivity to all the gram panchayats under the NOFN project" Prasad said in Feb, this year.

In Feb 2015,Prasad inaugurated BSNL's free Wi-fi service in Varanasi and promised a project worth over Rs 100 crore to boost Internet connectivity in the district.

In April 2015,Prasad said, "As far as the issue of net neutrality is concerned, for Internet expansion in India, the young people of the country have done a commendable job and my government will strive to ensure a non-discriminatory availability of Internet for the people of India, particularly the young people," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told.

Recently, Prasad announced thatthe government is working towards pulling off a goal of 50 crore Internet connections by 2018,
