Congress-mukt Bharat: Modi Govt is relooking schemes named after Nehru-Gandhi family

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reiterated this slogan 'Congress-mukt Bharat' many a times during his election campaign and now it's seems Government is in mood to make its reality. New dispensation is mulling to change the name of the large number of programmes and social schemes after Gandhi family.

IAY will become GRAM?
According to a HT report, the Rural Development Ministry will soon change the nomenclature of rural housing scheme, Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) into National Gramin Awas Mission (GRAM). Aiming to glorify the personality, IAY was launched in 1985 by the Rajiv Gandhi government.
"A GRAM becomes imperative since government has sought to achieve the goal of pucca houses for all by year 2022," a note on the mission by the rural development ministry said.

Most schemes are after Gandhi clan
At present, there are around 650 social welfare schemes in the name of former Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Most agonising fact is only 4 schemes and institutions have been named after father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Other eminent personalities fares badly like Lal Bahadur Shastri (2), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1), B R Ambedkar (4), Maulana Abul Kalam (3) and Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1). According to an RTI report accessed by Ibnlive, 12 Central and 52 state schemes, 28 sports tournaments and trophies, 19 stadiums, 5 ariports and ports, 98 educational institutions, 51 awards, 15 fellowships, 15 national sanctuaries and parks, 39 hospitals and medical institutions, 37 institutions, chairs and festivals and 74 roads, buildings and places are named after 3 members of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

UPA during its 10 years of rule named most of the scheme after Rajiv Gandhi. Right from power Ministry where Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana is the scheme, the rural development ministry has the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission and women and child development ministry runs the Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Scheme.

BJP acknowledges all big cult figures
Unlike UPA, BJP believes in the personification of all those great leaders who has done stupendous work for the country. In union Budget, an amount of Rs 200 crore was allocated for the statue of unity, named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. In an attempt to recognise Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Modi government proposed to set up a Centre of Excellence in MP.

Then amount of Rs.500 crore was also allocated in Budget for Deen Dayal Upadhyay rural electrification programme. Upadhyay is considered as one of the most important leaders of RSS. The Union budget also made mention of the Pt Madan Mohan Malaviya Teaching Programme which will be started sometime soon. Malaviya had founded Benaras Hindu University and considered a great leader.

How BJP reacted?
Earlier during Lok Sabha election, BJP leader had attacked Congress for this glorification exercise.
"It has been the Congress that has glorified contributions of one family by giving it credit for every thing taking place in the country before and after the Independence," M Venkaiah Naidu said.
Asking about what BJP will do with the schemes after coming in power, Union Urban Development Minister had said, "BJP will discuss all issues related to 650 schemes, including rationalization and christening of these schemes in the name of members of one family".

Shastri, Vallabhbhai Patel less important?
Why only Gandhi trio Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi was given special preference by UPA?

Are great leaders like Lal Bahadur Shastri , Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and B R Ambedkar anyway less important than Gandhi trio?
Why Indira Gandhi who subverted parliamentary democracy by imposing Emergency in 1975 and Rajiv Gandhi who justified butchering of thousands of Sikhs in 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom were glorified in this manner?

People of the country have given befitting reply to Congress in this Lok Sabha election. Congress should understand now that people can't be made fool for long by false propagandas. It's high time all such welfare schemes named after Gandhi clan must be reviewed and prudent decision must be taken regarding the same.
