Congress candidate from Sundernagar for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 is Sohan Lal Thakur. Thakur is a post graduate.

He is agriculturist by profession and has assets over Rs 9 crore.
Sohan Lal had won the 2012 Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections. The first runner-up was IND's Roop Singh. Sohan Lal had managed to win a total of 24,258 votes while Roop Singh had received 15,268 votes. Since 1951, both Congress and BJP had won a total of five times each.
Having been a seven-time MLA from Sundernagar, Thakur has a good hold in certain segments of the constituency.
