Jagjivan Paul was born on 1st May 1954 at Khera, Kangra district. He is Graduate of Himachal Pradesh University in 1975. Has a degree in Pre-Medical Science Group (Medical).
He is married to Ram Piary. Jagjiwan Paul is the Sullah MLA of Indian National Congress. He was elected as MLA from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the elections held in 2012.
He won by a margin of 4428 votes. He contested the assembly polls first the time in 1998. Later won the polls in 2003 and 2012. He has no criminal cases against him.
