Congress candidate from Seraj for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2017 is Chet Ram Thakur. He is a Virbhadra's loyalist .
The main electoral battle is between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In 2012 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP candidate Jai Ram Thakur won from Seraj constituency with 30837 votes. He defeated Congress' Tara Thakur, who received 25085. To retain the seat, the BJP has shown confidence in Jai Ram and fielded him again. However, the Congress gave ticket to Chet Ram Thakur this time.
