She had also remained a minister in Himachal Pradesh government in the past. She was a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms. SHe was elected for the first time in 2006 and her second term was from 2014.

Surinder Mankotia is the son of Late. Shamsher Singh. In 1992, Surinder passed Post Graduate degree in Economics from Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla. He has no criminal charges on him.

He calls himself a socio-political worker. Currently, he is the Vice-Chairman of the HP Worker Welfare Board.
