Is Your Bengaluru Property Tax Going Up This Year Here s The Truth

Some videos on social media claimed that the property tax might go up by three to four times, thereby worrying the people of Bengaluru. It was speculated that the hike was necessitated by the Karnataka government's populist schemes.

However, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has called the reports as "fake". "It has been brought to my notice that fake news peddlers are peddling fake news on social media regarding the increase in property tax rate by the BBMP w.e.f April 1, 2024.

I would like to clear the air here for Bengaluru residents that BBMP has not hiked any property tax, which will continue to be levied at the same rate as was prescribed in 2016," he wrote in a post on X.

The Deputy CM appealed the Bengalurians not to believe in such rumours. "Please do not believe any rumours regarding the same," he added.

The BBMP has also clarified that there is no rise in the property tax, this year. "Dear Citizens, Some fake news videos are doing the rounds that property tax is going to be increased in BBMP from 1st April 2024. It is hereby clarified that there is no increase in property tax under BBMP," Tushar Giri Nath, Chief Commissioner, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, said on social media.

He further added, "It is hereby clarified that no increase whatsoever is being made in BBMP Property Tax. The same tax rates as notified in the year 2016 and presently running, will continue."

Hence, it is clear that there is no truth in the claims that the property tax is increasing in Bengaluru.
