Fact Check: Was Kamala Harris drunk when she made this speech?

A video of US Vice-President Kamala Harris shows her delivering a slurred speech. Many took to the social media and claimed that Harris was drunk while delivering the speech.

"Today is today, and yesterday was today yesterday. Tomorrow will be today, tomorrow. So live today, so the future today will be as the past today, as it is tomorrow," she is heard saying in the speech.

"What were Americans thinking when they voted for her. Or they voted for because of her sex and skin colour," wrote on user while sharing the viral clip.

We have learnt that the clip has been edited. The video is not that of Kamala Harris, but of an impersonator.

If one looks at the video, you can see that people are holding placards that said, 'reproductive freedom.'Taking a cue from this we ran a keyword search and found the original video shared on a Facebook page of a non-profit organisation called NARAL Pro-Choice America. The clip was shared on April 26. According to the page, the video was from a speech made by Harris at a reproductive rights rally at the Howard University on April 25 at Washington DC.

At no point during the clip can the US Vice-President be heard making an incomprehensible as is heard in the viral clip. She speaks about the importance of reproductive freedom. She also spoke about running for re-election alongside US president Joe Biden.

The original video was also uploaded by the New York Post on April 26 2023. Thew viral clip seems to be an audio-editor version of the video shared by the New York Post.

"Fighting for Reproductive Freedom," read the text on the podium in the original video. However in the viral video the text was edited to read, "Ramble Rants Reproductive Freedom."

We also found a tweet by an account called Ramble Rants. The tweet mentions the word 'Mega' which is the election slogan of former US president Donald Trump. The account posted an edited video of Harris. The next day it was clarified that the tweet was a meme.

Hence this becomes clear that the video going viral with the claim that US Vice-President was drunk while she made a speech is a meme and not real.
