Fact Check: This video of a flyover collapsing is from Varanasi, not Delhi
A video has gone viral with the claim that many had lost their lives following a flyover collapse in Delhi. Those sharing the video blamed Arvind Kejriwal for the same. What is the truth behind this?
A video which shows many vehicles trapped under debris of a collapsed structure has gone viral on the internet.
Those sharing the video have claimed that an under-construction pillar of the Delhi Metro had collapsed in Najafgarh. The users also claimed that this had led to several deaths and injuries. While sharing the video, the people blamed Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal for the same.

So what is the truth behind this viral video.Screenshot 2023-02-21 at 8.41.25 AM.png
OneIndia reverse searched the key frames and it led us to a video May 18 2018. The viral video being shared as a latest one is from Varanasi. 18 people lost their lives after a part of an under-construction flyover collapsed in 2018.

The Quint had published a video of the incident. According to the video, a portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi on May 15 2018. 18 people died in the incident, while many others were injured.
We also found a report in The Hindu with the heading, "18 dead in Varanasi flyover collapse; more feared trapped in debris."
The same video has gone viral several times in the past as well. The video has been used with false information that it was from a flyover collapse in Thane and Hyderabad. The video had gone viral in February 2022 with the claim that those responsible for the construction have not been held responsible for the same.
Following the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government had formed a three-member committee of senior officials to probe the incident. The committee headed by commissioner of agriculture production, Raj Pratap Singh was to submit a detailed report to Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath in 48 hours. A government spokesperson said, "the team was given 48 hours to fully probe the incident, recommend action against the guilty officials and provide a report on all grounds including technical matters."
Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that he is extremely saddened by the loss of lives in his constituency. "I spoke with UP CM Yogi Adityanath Ji regarding the situation due to the collapse of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. The UP Government is monitoring the situation very closely and is working on the ground to assist the affected," the PM had said in a tweet.
Hence it can be concluded that those sharing the images with the claim that the flyover collapsed in Delhi are trying to mislead the people.
