A photo claiming that the Statue of Unity in Gujarat has developed cracks created a buzz on the inernet, resulting in spark of anger against the Government of India amoung the people, specially followers of freedom fighter Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

The Statue of Unity, standing at 183 meters, next to river narmada, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018. The statue has become a significant landmark since its unveiling and a big attraction for the tourists.

As the image gained traction online, so OneIndia.com decided to investigate its authenticity. When conducted a reverse image search, it was discovered that The New York Times had published a similar photo on October 31, 2018. This image was part of an article about the Statue of Unity.

Further verification on the EPA Image website revealed that the viral picture was taken on October 18, 2018, during the statue's construction phase. This finding confirms that the image is being shared with misleading claims about cracks in the statue.
