Fact Check: Government has not said it would give all girl children Rs 1.80 lakh

The government has on various occasions blocked channels on YouTube for spreading hate and misinformation about India

A video has gone viral with the claim that the Centre would be giving a cash amount of Rs 1,80,000 to all daughters under the Pradhan Mantri Kanya Ashirwad Yojana.

A YouTube channel, 'Government Gyan' has made this claim.

The government usually publicises such schemes on news channels, digital media or newspapers.

However many a time, there are handles on the social media which put out such schemes in a bid to create confusion and spread lies about the government.

Fact Check: Government has not said it would give all girl children Rs 1.80 lakh

In the viral video it is being claimed that all daughters will get R 1.80 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Kanya Ashirwad Yojana.

It further claims that the amount will be deposited into the account of the girl child's parents.

The claim being made is a huge one and given the large population of girls, the scheme would been heavily publicised by the government. However this has not been the case. Considering that the video had gone very viral, the government was quick to fact-check it.

Press Information Bureau, Fact Check took to Twitter to call out this video. PIB Fact Check said that this video has made misleading claims and no such scheme has been announced by the government.

Moreover it also said that the government is not running any scheme called the Pradhan Mantri Kanya Ashirwad Yojana. Hence there is no question of any such scheme having been announced by the government.

Taking to Twitter, PIB Fact Check said, " a video by a channel named Government Gyan on YouTune claims that the central government is giving a cash amount of Rs 1,80,000 to all daughters under the Pradhan Mantri Kanya Ashirwad Yojana. This video is fake. No such scheme is being run by the central government."

Users must be careful while spreading such information. The government has very often said that any schemes announced by it would be on official channels. The government too has several platforms on which it makes such announcements.

There are several fake accounts on the social media and on YouTube which have been spreading such false information. Very often such misinformation is spread to cause confusion among the people. Do verify such information before you begin passing it on to others. Passing on unverified information serves the purpose of these scammers. The government has suspended or blocked many YouTube channels and social media handles for spreading fake information. Recently many channels spreading hate against India were blocked by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
