Fact Check: Did Rahul visit Amul store and promoted its products?

There is a milk war in Karnataka ahead of the assembly polls which will be held on May 10. The results would be out on May 13.

The controversy was triggered after the opposition launched a scathing attack on the ruling BJP after the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Federation announced its plan to introduce Amul milk and curd in Bengaluru through commerce platforms. The opposition and pro-Kannada groups have alleged that the entry of Amul into the state would have a devastating impact on the Karnataka Milk Federation's brand Nandini.

Fact Check: Did Rahul Gandhi visit an Amul store and promoted its products?

The issue was not spared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who recently visited a Nandini Milk parlour in Bengaluru on April 16. He bought a Nandini ice cream. He also shared an image of him eating the ice cream and captioned it, 'Karnataka's pride-Nandini is the best.'

Now an image of Rahul Gandhi with cartons of Amul Gold milk has gone viral. Many shared the image and trained their guns against the Congress leader for promoting Amul milk.

"In Karnataka @RahulGandhi speaks against Amul, in Delhi goes to Amul dairy. People should understand that Congress loves nobody, all they want to do is make Indians fight with each other," Andhra Pradesh BJP state general secretary Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said in a tweet.

In the picture, Rahul Gandhi can be seen standing at a stall holding a slice of watermelon. A pink syrup with ice cubes can be seen in a saucepot, while in the background there is a signboard thaScreenshot 2023-04-20 at 9.46.56 AM.pngt reads, "Mohabbat ka Sharbat."

Using keywords, we came across several news items which had carried the viral photograph. The reports said that Rahul Gandhi had visited Delhi's Bengali Market and Chandni Chowk on April 18 to treat himself to the popular street food in these areas. A report read, 'Rahul Gandhi visits old Delhi, Bengali market; enjoys sharbat, golgappas.'

The image was also shared by news agency ANI and Congress on Twitter.

Hence it becomes clear that the image in question is not at an Amul stall, but at the Bengali market in Delhi.
