'Wicked' Musical Film Part One Release Date; Based On The Story Of 'The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz'

Universal Pictures just recently revealed the first trailer for their upcoming musical film 'Wicked' today, 16 May 2024. The trailer revealed the date to be around Thanksgiving, so fans of the movie can expect it to release sometime around 28 or 29 November, 2024.

The movie is only the first of two parts, with the second one to be released on 26 November, 2025. The movie's cast includes actors Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum.

The movie is based on the book 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire, which was eventually adapted into a broadway musical titled 'Wicked'. The book and movie are meant to act as both a prequel and a sequel to the book 'The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz' written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum. The new books and play give the characters in the old story a bit more backstory and development. The plot primarily revolves around how 'The Wicked Witch Of The West', the main antagonist of the Wizard of Oz story, became the person we know her as today.

'Wicked' the movie will follow the story of Elphaba, a young woman who is often discriminated against or mistreated because of her green skin. The audience will be able to see her full journey as she gets enrolled into Shiz University, meets Galinda (who is a younger version of Glinda The Good), and understands the full extent of her talents with magic and sorcery.

The film, just like the books and the Broadway musical, will also explore themes of good and evil, by showing that perhaps The Wizard Of Oz isn't as good of a person as we thought, and perhaps the Wicked Witch Of The West may have been more misunderstood than evil.
