Why Are Miss Nepal And Miss Pakistan From Universe Pageant Going Viral
During the swimsuit competition at the Miss Universe pageant, Erica Robin, the inaugural Miss Pakistan, made a striking statement by wearing a burkini. As she gracefully strode across the stage in San Salvador, El Salvador, the audience erupted into applause, captivated by her presence.
Robin's baby-pink burkini, distinguished by its shiny neckline against the soft pastel fabric, covered most of her body, a stark contrast to the daring cutouts of metallic swimsuits worn by other contestants.

Despite facing mixed reactions in her home country regarding her decision to compete, Robin, who placed in the top 20, expressed her pride in standing up for her beliefs. "I'm most proud of standing up for what I believe in my life," she mentioned in her Miss Universe biography. As a representative of Pakistan, Robin made history, acknowledging the varying responses within her community following her title win.
Her bio also highlighted her identity as part of Pakistan's Christian religious minority, constituting around 1% of the population.
In the same competition, Jane Dipika Garrett from Nepal became the first body-inclusive contestant at Miss Universe. Additionally, Camila Avella of Colombia, a married woman and mother, achieved a placement following rule changes in August 2022, marking a significant moment. Marina Machete of Portugal also made history as the first transgender contestant to secure a spot in the top 20.
