Who is Sobhita Dhulipala?

Born on 31 May 1992 in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, Sobhita Dhulipala hails from a Telugu family. Her father, Venugopal Rao, worked as a Merchant Navy engineer, while her mother, Santha Kamakshi, was a primary school teacher. She also has a younger sister named Samantha Dhulipala.

Sobhita's Early Life and Education

Growing up in Visakhapatnam, Sobhita moved to Mumbai at sixteen. She attended H.R. College of Commerce and Economics at the University of Mumbai, where she studied corporate law. Also, she is trained in classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi.

In 2010, Sobhita was crowned the Navy Queen at the annual Navy Ball. A friend interning at Miss Office suggested she audition for an upcoming pageant. Describing herself as an "uncool geek," Sobhita entered the competition seeking validation and aimed to clear just the first round.

Pageantry and Early Career

In 2013, Sobhita represented India at Miss Earth in the Philippines but did not make it to the top 20. However, she won sub-titles such as Miss Photogenic and Miss Beauty for a Cause. She also appeared in the Kingfisher Calendar in 2014.

Sobhita made her film debut opposite Vicky Kaushal in 'Raman Raghav 2.0' in 2016. Her performance earned her critical acclaim and a nomination for best supporting performance at Cannes Film Festival's Director's Fortnight. That same year, she signed a three-film deal with Phantom Films.

Sobhita continued to build her career with roles in various films and series. She appeared in 'The Body' alongside Emraan Hashmi and played a pregnant woman in the anthology 'Ghost Stories.' In 2021, she featured in 'Kurup,' followed by a role in the Hindi-Telugu biographical film 'Major' in 2022.

She starred as Vaanathi in Mani Ratnam's period films 'Ponniyin Selvan: I' and its sequel 'Ponniyin Selvan: II.' Also, she appeared with Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur in two seasons of 'The Night Manager,"' winning the ITA Award for Best Actress - Popular (OTT).

International Ventures

In 2024, Sobhita expanded into American cinema by playing an escort in Dev Patel's directorial debut 'Monkey Man.' Patel had seen her audition before her initial film debut and believed she was perfect for the role from that moment.

Sobhita reprised her role as Tara in the second season of 'Made In Heaven,' continuing to captivate audiences with her performances across various platforms and genres.
