War 2 Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Hrithik, NTR-Starrer? Find Out From Viewers' Words

Hrithik Roshan and Junior NTR's War 2 has hit the screens on Thursday, August 14. Ayan Mukerji-directorial movie is the sixth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe and a sequel to War (2019).

Kiara Advani plays the female lead in War 2 which also has Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff in the cast. Alia Bhatt, Bobby Deol and Sharvari have done cameos.

Story:
Years after going rogue, former intelligence agent Kabir Dhaliwal has become the nation's most wanted man. To stop him, the government deploys its best: Special Units Officer Vikram. A master tactician with a complex past, Vikram is the only operative with the resolve and skill to neutralize his dangerous and elusive target.

The Hindi movie has managed to create a good buzz from its promos and the trailer. The songs by Pritam have also struck a chord with the viewers. War is clashing with Rajinikanth's Coolie.

Sumit Kadel: RATING - ⭐️🌟 ( 1.5 Stars )

When you have two of the biggest superstars from North and South - #NTR #HrithikRoshan and a budget of ₹300-400 Cr & yet you deliver such a weak film, in my eyes it's nothing less than a sin. In terms of content and quality, this will go down as the weakest film in the Spy Universe.

The three biggest pillars of any action film are VFX, action, and story and on all three fronts, War 2 is extremely poor. For the biggest film of the Spy verse, where budget was no constraint, having such terrible graphics is downright shameful. For most parts, the VFX of War 2 can't even compete with PlayStation 3 video games. [ Three of the film's major action set pieces ,one on top of a train, another involving an airplane and bomber jet and one Boat action set in dubai are so poorly executed that audiences will laugh at the action and fume at the VFX ]

The story is the same old recycled plot that the audience will easily predict halfway through [ Interval Block when the main twist is revealed is not shocking at all ] . Some scenes and twists would have been better left out entirely. The film is flat, slow, and completely devoid of clap-worthy moments and standout elevation scenes - which are a must for a big-budget action spectacle.

#JrNTR's fans will likely be very disappointed, as he did not get the kind of elevation he deserved. His character [ Raghu ] has been written far more weakly compared to Hrithik's. The entry sequence that should have been his highlight is a complete misfire, and in the second half, he is totally wasted. Though he acted very well, his dialogue delivery and hindi is on point.

#AyanMukerji's direction is poor, but when the story and visual effects themselves are so bad, there's little a director can do. There is no proper justification for any character in the film, including the leads. Their missions and methods follow are illogical and both the emotion and the conflict between Hrithik and NTR completely fail to land.

[ In HR-NTR childhood scenes, Mumbai shows today's 50-60 floor skyscrapers probably 30 years ago. Even Hrithik's younger version has wheatish skin & black eyes, while grown-up Kabir has green eyes and fair skin. With such basic detailing errors, what can you expect from the story ]

The twists and turns also fail miserably. The movie remains boring, slow, and without any high points. Hrithik Roshan, as Kabir, looks outstanding, but even he cannot rise above the script. His entry and the entire Japan action sequence are choreographed very poorly.

The film's writer, Sridhar Raghavan, sank Tiger 3 and has now damaged the future of the Spy Universe with War 2. [ Can you believe it? The organisation aiming to destroy India in War 2 is called KALI ,pronounced Kali not Kaali but still an avoidable name that could spark controversy ]. More surprising is that, in today's time, a film of War 2's scale ends up with such a weak villain group and flimsy arc.

#KiarAdvani & #AnilKapoor are Totally Wasted. Only Major Highlight of the film is Jaanabe Ali Song and Dance of both the leads.

Overall, War 2 fails on every front. It stands nowhere in comparison to #Pathaan, #War, or #EkThaTiger, and is even weaker than #Tiger3. The film has neither style nor substance.

At the box office, this film will be a huge flop. If it even manages average business in both North and South markets, that will be an achievement in itself.

Review:

The film opens with well crafted introductions particularly NTR's entry, which is executed impressively. The interval twist adds a spark of excitement, and if one overlooks the lack of realistic physics and logic, the chase sequences and fight scenes are engaging. The dance sequences are another highlight, with NTR matching the grace and style of Hrithik with ease.

However, the film falters in several areas. The storyline is virtually non existent, and the background score lacks the impact required to elevate key moments though it manages to complement NTR's scenes to an extent. The narrative is highly predictable, with no surprising twists, and the pacing feels slow throughout.

FINAL OPINION
While the film offers a few moments that NTR fans will cherish, it ultimately fails to deliver as a compelling cinematic experience.

RS: War2 Review: The movie starts off on an average note, with a slow-paced first half that picks up only after NTR's entry. Hrithik & NTR's combo is a treat, and their performances are top-notch throughout. The background score stands out, adding life to key moments.

However, the second half turns into a boring, routine spy-thriller template, relying on predictable twists and average emotional beats. The film did have a solid setup, which worked in its favor. A few good blocks like the introduction sequences, the dance number, and a few twists worked well. However, the emotion and potential highs in the core story weren't executed properly.

Both lead actors performed their roles well and were apt for their characters, but nothing they haven't done before. Their performances in the climax stand out.

The production values are good, but there are some VFX shots that look shoddy, especially during a boat chase sequence. The BGM had scope to be a lot better. It is better than the previous spy universe film, but is still just okay!
