Vijay Stood Firm, Nayanthara Said Sorry: Thalapathy Fans Target Nayan Over ‘Annapoorani’ Controversy

Vijay Stood Firm, Nayanthara Said Sorry: Thalapathy Fans Target Nayan Over 'Annapoorani' Controversy

The fans of Vijay are not happy with Nayanthara after she lent an apology over the controversy around 'Annapoorani'.

Vijay Fans Are Targeting Nayanthara

They have recalled how Vijay handled the situation when the controversy around 'Mersal' had broken out in 2017. He was targeted by the Tamil Nadu BJP leader H Raja.

'Mersal' Vs 'Annapoorani'

H Raja had raised objections to a few dialogues in 'Mersal' that took a swipe at GST and the digital India initiative.

The controversy escalated when party leaders opted for personal attacks, specifically by invoking the actor's Christian name to insinuate hidden agendas. H Raja posted a picture on Twitter featuring Vijay's voter ID and his official letterhead, which displayed the actor's rarely used full name, 'Joseph Vijay.'

Although the BJP and the AIADMK had called for a ban on 'Mersal', several parties including the DMK had put their weight behind Vijay. Notably, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and many others from the Tamil film industry extended their support to him.

Another fan said, "one stood firm, another said sorry,"

Citing this incident, the Vijay fans have now questioned Nayanthara why she lent an apology. "When BJP's H. Raja attacked Vijay for his religion in #Mersal issue, #ThalapathyVijay released a thanks note using the same name 'Joseph Vijay'. He didn't bow down. He didn't feel intimidated one bit. When #Nayanthara was put in the same situation, she apologises due to backlash.

Now you understand why being #ThalapathyVijay is difficult. It's never easy when your film is in trouble and you must stand up for yourself. @actorvijay is a legend.🙏 #Annapoorani," a Thalapathy fan said. Many fans are posting the letters of Nayanthara and Vijay over their controversies.

However, there are netizens who pointed out that both the issues are different as the 'Mersal' controversy was around comments on the BJP policies and 'Annapoorani' is more about some anti-Hindu scenes.

"Point isn't exactly about religion here! Point is the support both got! Nayanthara sadly didn't get any support but Vijay as he himself mentioned got support from film industry, associations, politicians and more! This post is to highlight his star power," one user said.

"It's even unfair to compare actor Vijay with Nayanthara. Vijay has tremendous support amongst the people of TN. It ll be very difficult to touch him. We saw what happened when there was it raids in his home. Other hand Nayan does not enjoy similar support. Maybe because nayanthara is technically a hindu now so she said jai shri ram why would joseph vijay use jai shri ram?" the second user stated.

However, some Vijay fans particularly mentioned about Nayan using 'Jai Shri Ram' in her apology note. A netizen added, "Difference is -#Nayanthara never has posted jai ram previously in her media letters. Now she is forced. But #Vijay didn't bend the rules to please anyone. If Nayan always had posted like that, no questions will be asked. Fear of Hindutva backlash. #GOAT is bold."

What Is 'Annapoorani' All About?

'Annapoorani' film was removed from Netflix following a backlash from netizens. The movie came under attack for its anti-Hindu content, as a section of Hindus accused the film of promoting conversion to Islam, distorting the portrayal of Hindu deity Ram.

A Shiv Sena leader in Maharashtra lodged a complaint against the movie. He pointed out several objectionable scenes in the movie, such as the portrayal of the daughter of a Hindu Brahmin temple priest participating in Namaz (Islamic prayer), the glorification of love jihad, and the depiction of Lord Ram and Maa Sita consuming meat in the Ramayana, which he deemed as falsehoods.

This has forced Nayanthara to give an apology. On her Instagram page, she said, "In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand the gravity of this issue.

The actress, in an Instagram post featuring the 'Jai Shri Ram' chant and the Hindu religious symbol 'Om' on the masthead, said, "In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand the gravity of this issue.

Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do. To those whose feelings we've touched, I extend my sincere and heartfelt apologies."

"The intention behind 'Annapoorni was to uplift and inspire, not to cause distress Over the last two decades, my journey in the film industry has been guided with a singular intention - To spread positivity & foster learning from one another," Nayanthara concludes.
