Vidaamuyarchi 1st Day Box Office Collection: Ajith-Starrer Gets Flying Start In Chennai, Bengaluru
Ajith Kumar's much-anticipated action thriller, Vidaamuyarchi, has made an impressive debut at the Tamil Nadu box office, drawing large crowds despite its release on a working day. The film, which has opened to mixed reviews from audiences, has shown strong occupancy rates across major cities, signalling a promising start for the Tamil film industry in 2025.
Vidaamuyarchi 1st Day Box Office Collection - Tamil Nadu
Going by the reports, Vidaamuyarchi recorded an overall occupancy of 58.81% in morning shows and 60.27% in afternoon shows, as per Sacnilk. The movie did not have special early morning shows like the way usual star movies have in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai recorded a staggering 90.50% occupancy across 1,075 shows, thereby once again proving that Ajith has a big fan following in the state capital. Other cities also reported robust numbers:
Coimbatore: 81.50% occupancy from 368 shows
Madurai: 62% occupancy from 230 shows
Salem: 80.50% occupancy from 119 shows
Vellore: 84.50% occupancy from 69 shows
Trichy: 94% occupancy from 83 shows
In Bengaluru, which had 1,014 shows, the film recorded 30% occupancy during morning and afternoon shows. Whereas in Kerala, Kochi and Trivandrum reported lower occupancies of 20.50% and 19.50%, respectively.
Advance Booking and Day 1 Collections
The film's advance booking numbers were equally impressive, with 7,15,631 tickets sold nationwide, contributing ₹19.28 crore to the box office. On its first day, Vidaamuyarchi netted close to ₹10 crore from morning and afternoon shows alone, setting the stage for a strong opening weekend.
Telugu Version: Pattudala
The Telugu-dubbed version of the film, titled Pattudala, also saw a decent start in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The morning shows on Thursday recorded 12.43% occupancy, while afternoon shows saw a slight increase to 13.55%. It has to be noted that Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi-starrer Thandel is releasing tomorrow and this might impact the business of Ajith's film.
Mixed Reviews
Despite its strong box office performance, Vidaamuyarchi has received mixed reviews from audiences. The film, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, is being described as a middling action thriller with an engaging first half but a slow-paced second half. While the storyline and twists have been appreciated, the lack of a racy narrative has drawn criticism.
Ajith Kumar delivers a restrained performance, shedding his mass image for a more stylish and subtle role. However, fans expecting high-octane moments may find the film lacking. The film's technical aspects, including Om Prakash's cinematography and Anirudh Ravichander's music, have been praised, though the latter's score is considered functional rather than exceptional.
With the movie getting a good start in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Ajith-starrer is predicted to do good business over the weekend.
