Udaipur Files Film Release Rescheduled To August 8, 2025, Amid Legal Challenges

The film "Udaipur Files," featuring Vijay Raaz, was initially scheduled for release on July 11, 2025. However, legal challenges arose as petitions sought to ban the movie. On July 10, the Delhi High Court intervened by halting its release and instructed the Central government to review its content under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act.

On August 6, 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting dismissed these revision petitions. The government stated that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had already certified the film with 55 cuts. It emphasized that opponents of the film's release failed to present a compelling case for further action.

Release Date Announced

Amit Jani, the producer of "Udaipur Files," announced via social media platform X that the movie will now be released on August 8, 2025. He encouraged audiences to watch it in theatres. The announcement was accompanied by a video message.

The controversy surrounding "Udaipur Files" stems from its depiction of a real-life murder in Rajasthan on June 28, 2022. Kanhaiya Lal Teli, a tailor, was killed for allegedly making comments about Prophet Muhammad on social media. His murderers attacked him in his shop after he reportedly supported remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

Film's Cast and Characters

Besides Vijay Raaz, "Udaipur Files" features an ensemble cast including Rajniesh Duggal, Preeti Jhangiani, Kamlesh Sawant, Kanchi Singh, Mushtaq Khan, Ehsaan Khan, Puneet Vashistha, Manoj Bakshi, Gagandeep Singh, and Sandeep Bose among others.

Santosh Kumar Maurya from the Ministry stated in an order: "Therefore, in consideration of the foregoing facts and findings...the competent authority in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting...holds that no case is made out for the exercise of powers under sub-section (2) of Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act." This decision led to dismissing all revision petitions against the film.

The film's narrative focuses on a sensitive incident which has sparked significant public interest and debate. Despite initial legal hurdles and controversies surrounding its content, "Udaipur Files" is set to hit theatres soon.
