Tollywood Star Mahesh Babu Gets ED Summon Over Money Laundering Allegations

South superstar Mahesh Babu has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and asked to appear before court on April 27. According to the reports, Mahesh Babu has been called for grilling over money laundering allegations tied to a real estate fraud.

It's alleged that Mahesh Babu was paid Rs 5.9 crore by Sai Surya Ventures in exchange for his endorsement of their projects, a transaction now under the ED's microscope for potential links to criminal activities.

Reports highlight that the actor's payment might be intertwined with illicit funds, sparking a broader probe into the real estate sector's underhanded dealings. The focus is on whether the cash Mahesh Babu received - part of which was handed over in cash - could be traced back to the murky world of money laundering. The investigation tails back to complaints lodged by Telangana police against significant figures in the real estate industry, including Narendra Surana of Bhagyanagar Properties Ltd. and K Sathish Chandra Gupta from Sai Surya Developers.

Under Scrutiny: Mahesh Babu's Endorsement

Mahesh Babu's association with Sai Surya Developers, alongside Surana Group, has thrust him into the spotlight of this financial scandal. The developers are accused of defrauding investors, with Mahesh Babu's endorsement allegedly leading unsuspecting individuals to pour money into the projects. While the superstar's direct involvement remains unestablished, the ED's inquiry aims to dissect the financial flows to him from the developers, shedding light on the broader scheme of fraud.

At the heart of this scandal is a payment of Rs 5.9 crore to Mahesh Babu, dissected into a cheque transaction of Rs 3.4 crore and a cash handover of Rs 2.5 crore. The ED's suspicions lean towards the cash component, probing its connections to laundered money derived from the real estate scam. This scam has already seen legal actions initiated with FIRs filed against key industry players for duping buyers.

Despite the looming legal troubles, Mahesh Babu remains engaged in his professional commitments, currently filming SSMB29 alongside Priyanka Chopra. This project, marking his inaugural collaboration with famed director SS Rajamouli and featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, has the entertainment industry buzzing with anticipation.
