Tirupati Stampede: Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaj Event Called Off – What Happened?

The recent stampede at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati on January 8 has left the nation in shock. The tragic incident occurred during the token distribution for the Vaikuntha Dwara Sarva Darshan, resulting in overcrowding and chaos. Devotees, eager to secure tickets for the special 10-day darshan, scuffled near the ticket counter at Vishnu Nivasam, leading to a stampede. Six lives were lost, and over 30 people sustained injuries.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has launched an investigation, citing miscommunication and poor crowd management as potential causes. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the temple's preparations for the Vaikuntha Ekadasi celebrations, prompting a review of safety protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Nandamuri Balakrishna's Daaku Maharaaj: A Much-Awaited Release

Daaku Maharaaj, directed by Bobby Kolli and starring Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, is one of the most anticipated films of the season. Scheduled for release on January 12, the action-packed entertainer has generated significant buzz through its teasers, trailers, and songs. Produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film features Bobby Simha, Shraddha Srinath, Pragya Jaiswal, and Urvashi Rautela in key roles. With music by Thaman and cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan, the film promises a massy spectacle for fans.

However, Daaku Maharaaj has faced some controversy. The song "Dabidi Dibidi," featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Urvashi Rautela, drew criticism for its choreography, which many deemed vulgar and inappropriate. Social media users expressed their displeasure, stating that the steps were unsuitable and out of sync with contemporary sensibilities.

Daaku Maharaaj Event Cancelled

In light of the Tirupati stampede, the makers of Daaku Maharaaj announced the cancellation of the pre-release event scheduled in Anantapur as a mark of respect. The team, led by Nandamuri Balakrishna, expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims' families.

In their official statement, the team said,"The recent events in Tirupati have deeply affected us. It is heart-wrenching to witness such a tragedy at the Lord Venkateswara temple, a sacred place of devotion and hope for millions. Out of respect for the victims and their families, we have decided to cancel today's pre-release event. With a heavy heart, we stand in solidarity with those affected by this incident. We hope for your understanding and support during this difficult time."

This incident recalls a previous tragedy, when Allu Arjun's movie Pushpa 2 faced its own controversy during a promotional event at Sandhya Theater, where a woman tragically lost her life in a stampede. Despite the unfortunate incident, Allu Arjun and his team continued their celebrations and promotional activities, which sparked a debate over the appropriateness of continuing with festivities in the wake of such tragedies. While his actions were seen as a sign of his commitment to the film's success, many questioned whether more sensitivity could have been shown.
