Thandel's Box Office Performance on Opening Day

On the first day, Thandel managed to pull a good number of audiences to theatres. The film witnessed a steady rise in footfalls, with morning shows registering around 47.04% occupancy, while night shows surged to 71.10%.
The film saw a phenomenal response in key Telugu-speaking regions, particularly in Warangal, Hyderabad, Vizag, and Kakinada, where occupancy rates crossed the 80% mark in several night shows, as per Sacnilk. However, its reach in cities like Mumbai and Delhi NCR remained relatively low, given the dominance of Bollywood releases in these markets.

In Hyderabad, one of the strongholds for Telugu cinema, the film enjoyed an overall occupancy of 71.75% across 438 shows, with night screenings drawing nearly 90% capacity crowds. The response in Warangal was even more remarkable, with 81.50% occupancy, and Kakinada reported an even higher 88% overall occupancy, making it one of the best-performing cities for Thandel.
Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, where Telugu films often enjoy a strong presence, Thandel recorded a moderate 23% overall occupancy, with night shows improving to 35%. Chennai saw a decent turnout, with evening and night show occupancies rising to 75%.
On the other hand, the film's performance in Mumbai and the National Capital Region (NCR) remained relatively low, with occupancy figures of 43.25% and 15.33%, respectively. While Mumbai showed some promise with night shows peaking at 74%, NCR saw minimal traction, with the highest occupancy at just 21% for evening shows.
Plot Overview
Thandel is a romantic action thriller that revolves around the lives of fishermen from Srikakulam, whose routine fishing expedition takes a dangerous turn when they unknowingly drift into Pakistani waters. The film captures themes of love, sacrifice, courage, and patriotism, weaving them into an emotionally charged narrative.
Naga Chaitanya's rugged transformation and Sai Pallavi's powerful performance have been widely praised. The chemistry between the lead actors has been one of the biggest highlights of the film. Additionally, Devi Sri Prasad's music, Naveen Nooli's sharp editing, and Shamdat Sainudeen's stunning cinematography have elevated the film's impact.
The supporting cast, featuring Prakash Belawadi, Rao Ramesh, Karunakaran, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Kalpa Latha, and Kalyani Natarajan, adds depth to the story, making Thandel a complete cinematic package. The film has been produced by Bunny Vasu under Geetha Arts and presented by Allu Aravind, ensuring a high level of production value.
Weekend Predictions
Given the film's strong start, especially in Telugu-speaking regions, Thandel is expected to gain momentum over the weekend. If the positive word-of-mouth continues to spread, the film could easily surpass ₹25-30 crore in its opening weekend.
With Saturday and Sunday collections likely to see an upward trend, Thandel has the potential to become one of Naga Chaitanya's biggest openers. The performance in smaller towns and Tier 2 cities will be crucial in determining its long-term success.
