Temple On Demolition Ground Of Another Religion's Sacred Space: Sruthi Hariharan On Ayodhya Ceremony

Multilingual actress Sruthi Hariharan has slammed the celebration around the Ram Temple in Ayodhya which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

"Hopping onto what I believe is a good trend right now - why is it important to remember the Constitution at this time? Well, the constitution clearly mentions that the state shall remain neutral in matters of religion. It shall not discriminate against or patronise a particular religion. I see that politicisation happening . And that is not something I will sit and observe quietly," she wrote on Instagram.

However, the actress has highlighted that she has no issues with saying "Jai Shri Ram". She added, "Who wouldn't be inspired by the qualities that Ram stands for? I think it's no coincidence that Hanuman, ripped open his chest to show Ram living in him. Maybe that was purposely put in the Ramayana to tell us to find Ram within?"

The 'Lucia' actress has objections over politics on religion. She said, "What is most upsetting is that a political promise made ,to build a temple on the demolition ground of another religion's sacred space, has been fulfilled, celebrated and how."

Sruthi Hariharan is a popular actress who has worked in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam movies. 'Lucia', 'Beautiful Manasugalu', 'Raambo 2', 'Ambi Ning Vayassaytho' and 'Head Bush' are some of her notable works.

On the other hand, PM Modi inaugurated the 51-inch Ram Lalla idol in the newly-constructed temple in Ayodhya on Monday. There was the 16th-century Babri mosque, which many Hindus believe was constructed on the site of Lord Ram's birthplace, was demolished by 'kar sevaks' on December 6, 1992.

In 2019, the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict where it granted the entire 2.77 acre of disputed land in Ayodhya to the deity Ram Lalla, possession of land will remain with the Central government receiver.
