After keeping his fans awaited for years, Vijay has formally announced his entry into politics on Friday. Well, the name of his political party is 'Tamilaga Vetri Kazham' (loosely translates Tamil Nadu Victory Party).

In a statement, the actor has announced that his party will not be contesting in the Lok Sabha polls but rather in the next state assembly elections, as decided in the recent party meetings.

"I have decided to complete the film I have already committed to, without affecting the party work and completely involve myself in the politics of public service. I consider this as my gratitude towards the people of Tamil Nadu," Vijay stated.

Days ago, the actor was elected as the President of his party and the process of registering the party name with the Election Commission was underway, a key member had told NDTV.

He was declared the Party President in a recent meeting which was attended by about 200 members. The party had also appointed its General Secretary and Treasurer.

The key decisions were taken in the party's general council meeting and a Central Executive Committee has also been formed.

The actor has a fan club called Vijay Makkal Iyakkham. It already has thousands of fans spread across the state. The organisation engages in welfare activities. Recently, the fans club honoured the toppers from the public exams from Tamil Nadu.

The statement reads, "To my best, the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam has been doing a lot of public welfare activities for the past many years. But a lot of political changes cannot be made only through a non-profit organisation, a political power is needed. You all know the current political scenario. Wrongful administration and corrupt politics is on one hand, on the other hand is discriminative politics to divide our people. On two sides obstacles have been placed for our development and unity."

"All are carving for good politics, especially Tamil Nadu each people are carving for Selfless, truthful Politics with foresight and non corrupt government without caste - religion differences and with good administration. Very importantly, that Politics would be based on our Indian Constitution to apt with Tamil Nadu State rights and will be based on this soil 'By Birth all are same' ideology," the statement added.Vijay stated further that Tamil people are the ones who gave him everything and he wanted to give it back to them.

The actor claimed that the people of Tamil Nadu gave him everything and he now wants to give it back. "After my father and mother, the Tamil people are the ones who have given me everything including my name, fame and money. And I have been waiting to give it back to them for a long time Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam will be the party led by me. Our party leaders have gone to Delhi to register the party in the ECI We have already written and submitted the bylaws and the structure of the party," the statement added.

Vijay has always been ambitious about politics. Several times, he has given hints about foraying into politics at some stage of his career. In 2020, a drama unfolded when his father SA Chandrasekhar announced that he was getting active in politics through the political party.

After Chandrasekhar announced that he was the party's General Secretary, his wife as its treasure and relative Padmanabhan as the party's President. However, Vijay was not happy with his father over using his name for political gains. So, he filed a lawsuit against eleven people, including his parents, SA Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar, in a city court in Chennai.

"I don't have any connection directly or indirectly with the political statements that my father has issued. I'm not bound to follow my father's political aspirations. I request my fans not to join the party that my father has started. If anyone tries to misuse my name, photo, or my fan clubs for their political aspirations, I will take necessary actions against them", he had said in a statement.

As the situation started turning bad to worse, SA Chandrasekhar dissolved the party. "I have decided I want to have no more part in politics or the iyakkam or in any political activity in these late years of my life. That's all, it's very simple," he was quoted as saying after dissolving Vijay Makkal Iyakkam.

Vijay, who has acted in 68 movies, is currently working on Venkat Prabhu's 'The Greatest of All Time'.

"2026 is our goal. After getting altricial from ECI and after 2024 Lok Sabha elections we will be deciding upon the symbol, flag, ideologies, policies, meet and greet with people and the proper beginning of our political journey will begin. We are not contesting in the 2024 elections and we will not be supporting any of the party that is contesting," the statement added.
